MLB customs are always a fan favorite. This weeks MLB update will include the New York Mets New Era Fitted Hat in team colors with an American Flag patch on the side of the hat instead of the New Era sign. This hat is a retro down to the last detail including a white sweatband and gray under visor. This fitted hat was used in the season after 09-11. The Tampa Bay Rays New Era Fitted Hat is also a retro release from 1998. This fitted hat is also in team colors with a gray under Brim and white sweatband.

The 1986 World Series was known for a lot of things. Probably the most famous reason is the infamous error by Bill Buckner which further pushed the “Curse of the Bambino” myth. The 1986 Boston Red Sox team was full of talent and were lead by future Hall of Famers, Roger Clemens and Wade Boggs to name a few. The New York Mets on the other hand were known for their gritty attitudes on and off the Field.

In game 6 of that Series, the Boston Red Sox who haven’t won a World Series in over 60 years and were 1 out away in game 6 against the New York Mets. With Shea Stadium literally rocking, Wilson stepped back in with a full count and the winning run in scoring position, on the 10th pitch of the at-bat, Wilson hit a slow ground ball up the first base line that should been an easy play for Boston 1st baseman Bill Buckner. As the speedy Wilson took off from the box, the ball went right between the legs of Buckner who was playing on two bad ankles. The ball slipped under his glove, and rolled slowly into right field, and the rest is history.

Ecapcity.com is happy to bring to our West Coast Fan base the New Era Fitteds worn during The 1988 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics. In that series the Oakland A’s were the heavy favorites winning their division by 13 games over Minnesota Twins and then sweeping the Boston Red Sox. The Los Angeles Dodgers on the other hand weren’t even supposed to be there. They upset the heavy favorites New York Mets 4 games to 3 and went on the upset the Oakland A’s 4 games to 1.

This World Series is famous for another reason, Kirk Gibson. Suffering from a stomach virus and injuries to both legs sustained during the League Championship Series, he was not expected to play at all. In Game 1, on October 15, 1988 with the Dodgers trailing by a score of 4–3, Mike Davis on first, and two out in the ninth inning, manager Tommy Lasorda inserted Gibson as a Pinch Hitter. He limped up to the plate to face Oakland’s future Hall of Fame closer Dennis Eckersley. Gibson quickly got behind in the count, 0–2, but laid off a pair of outside pitches that were called balls and fouled off a pitch to work to a 2–2 count. On the sixth pitch of his at bat, a ball, Davis stole second. With an awkward and almost casual swing, Gibson smacked a 3–2 pitch over the right-field fence. He limped around the bases and pumped his fist as his teammates stormed the field. The Dodgers won the game, 5–4, and would go on to win the World Series, 4–1.

Bringing something a little bit more basic to the line up this week we will be putting out more solid color fitted hats.
