I don’t know if you can call this story outrageous like Chief suggested it could be, but here goes. My freshman year in college, I joined a campus group. Didn’t know much about it at the time, but I liked to have a good time, so it seemed like the right fit for me. As a member, we often found ourselves in some pretty ridiculous situations. The one I enjoyed the most though was a tradition we called wing night. My class and I sat down around a table in the middle of our house, 2 hotplate style containers in front of us. “10 minutes,” someone said as the tops were lifted off the containers. From the second the smell hit our faces, we all knew it was on. They were called, “Triple nasty wings”, and they lived up to the name and then some. The spell alone could burn your nose hairs clean off, and the taste numbed your mouth. We devoured 100 wings in 10 mins, some people puked and others looked like there was a fire in their pants. I finished my last wing, and with a sigh of relieve, raised my hand to wipe the sweat from my face. About a half second later, it hit me. Not, “wow, what an awesome job, I feel so accomplished” or any of that crap. Instead, all i thought was, “OMG my eyes are going to bleed.” The smart one that I am, I wiped triple nasty hot sauce all on my face and eyes. The burning was intense, and i ended up pouring a beer on my face to stop the pain. Ready for the tie in to the picture? Ok, me too. Nowadays, I spend a lot of my time thinking about all the ridiculous things I did in college, and the friends I made. ^^ That’s how I look when I do it.

yeah what the….i thought there were gona be 4 finalists. and all these finalists are photographers/writers which means they all have experience and know how to write. make it more fair…

So sorry, we were in the process of picking the four but only the three got launched. Wasn’t paying much attention to the occupation of the writers but you’re right. It does seem unfair. This is our first time doing this so I hope you can bear with us. Next time, we will pay more attention and the contest will be more simplified.

Numbers aside, it seems you’re grabbing at air here Joe. Daniel’s profession is that of a magazine writer and not of a photographer. Therefore, his photo is taken more out of his personal interest of photography as a hobby and not a profession. To critique his writing in his short story, there are several grammatical and spelling errors; things that would not pass review if it were to be published in a magazine. Your response sadly shares in this erroneous delivery as well. Is the contest fair? Quite. Daniel became a finalist on his own merit — He saw an opportunity to express his interests and share a personal story. Rather than show a bitterness towards your competition, you should now support them and look forward to your next opportunity to become a finalist. Keep writing and keep taking photos.

no offense, but this artsy fartsy contest is mad corny…
it should of been based off of ONE picture of your CapCity collection and THATS IT!
whoever had the best pieces or most unique set up takes all… simple as that…

That wouldn’t be fair because not everyone has the money to always keep buying hats. We appreciate all of our customers regardless of how much they spend. So we figured a creative way everyone could participate.

Next contest we do, we’ll try to work out it better. This was our first contest along this nature so we just needed to test the waters, but in the end, my man, Dan B. won. That’s that. Congrats.
